St John's Church History
The Parish Church of St John the Evangelist is a typical example of a small Essex Victorian Church. Built to a pseudo-Norman design, the church seats about 100 people and has a small ‘open’ churchyard which is given over to nature. Burials rarely number more than two a year here.
The parish is situated on the outskirts of Hatfield Forest, a true example of a medieval hunting forest now owned by the National Trust and extending to about 1000 acres. |
St John’s welcomes and is appreciated by many visitors from Hatfield Forest as evidenced by their comments in the visitors book.
It is said that the population of wild deer in the parish exceeds parishioners of the humankind. |
